Building Efficiency in Vancouver - Panel Session

Municipal building energy consumption accounts for almost 50% of C40 cities’ total carbon output, C40 cities such as Vancouver have the unique opportunity to significantly reduce and meet carbon emission goals by finding innovative solutions within this domain. This panel session strives to assess Vancouver’s current initiatives in the context of recent developments within the field, and recommend specific policies that it can implement in order to more effectively achieve its goal of becoming the ‘Greenest City’ by 2020.

The panel session will consist of a student led discussion regarding the topic outlined above, with representatives from the The Panel Policy Institute (PPI) and the UBC Environmental Policy Association (EPA) acting as moderators. Participants are expected to prepare some brief research on an assigned Green City. The ultimate goal of this panel session is to reach consensus on a set of concrete policies that Vancouver can implement within its green building strategy.
