Climate Talk: Capitalism and Climate Change

  • Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, Room 182 (map)

Hey UBC! Come join us on October 4th for our first Climate Talk of the school year, where we will be discussing Capitalism and Climate Change. This is a growing area of research that is important to understand if we want to make progress on climate change policy in the coming years.

Location: Irving K Barber Learning Center Room 182

We are excited to announce that we will be joined by UBC Political Science Professor Kathryn Harrison. Professor Harrison focuses her research on environmental policy in Canada. She looks at why governments implement the policies they do as well as the efficacy of alternative policy instruments. If you want to know more about her you can read her book, "Passing the Buck: Federalism and Canadian Environmental Policy."

The talk will begin with a short presentation from Professor Harrison regarding her research and her take on the relationship between capitalism and climate change. After her presentation, we will open up the discussion to the room.

This talk is open to all UBC students and community members. No prior knowledge is necessary, but we will be posting relevant information ahead of time to give some background information on the issue. We will also be providing some free snacks for all attendees, so be sure to come out, learn, and share your thoughts on this important topic!
