The Vancouver School of Economics at UBC

Our Story.

The UBC Environmental Policy Association was founded in January 2016 by two International Economics students looking to share their passion for environmentalism with their classmates through extra-curricular discussions. After noticing a lack of active environmental policy analysis on campus, they decided to establish the EPA as an official club, with the goal of helping the student body be more aware and critical of environmental decision-making.

Mission:

  • Increase awareness surrounding global climate change policies and their ramifications
  • Provide students with the opportunity to learn about environmental public policy in a casual, pressure-free environment
  • Educate the student body to be more aware and critical of the environmental decisions governments, businesses, and NGOs are making
  • Promote economic solutions to climate change

Our Team

Carina Manitius - President Carina is in her fourth year of the Bachelor of International Economics (BIE) program at UBC. Her passion for environmental conservation and sustainability and her desire to engage people in the political process led her to pursue change via the EPA. Her main area of academic interest is in natural capital valuation and figuring out how to incorporate the environment into economic models. When she’s not studying, you will probably find her outside hiking somewhere in the beautiful costal mountains.
